Jane Bond Collection To Feature in Mallams’ Oxford Library Sale

23/08/2023

Mallams is pleased to announce that 18 works by the British portrait painter, Jane Bond (b.1939), will be included in the 20 September Oxford Library Sale. Alongside her own art works, are a number of objects she has collected over the years, including two artist lay figures and two easels.

After studying at St. Martin’s School of Art, Jane became an assistant to Edward Delaney, a well-known scenic artist, who painted most of his backcloths on the studio floor in the continental manner. She worked on scenery for everything from Grand Opera to Bertram Mills’ circus as well as other film, theatre and television productions.

In 1978 Jane attended the City and Guilds School of Art as a mature student for a 3-year painting diploma course, and was then offered a post graduate place at the Royal Academy Schools for a further 3 years. She left in 1984 and has since concentrated on her own signature work, with many notable portrait sitters including The Rt. Hon Betty Boothroyd MP. She has been an elected member of New English Art Club since 1989 and of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters since 1992.

She has exhibited at many prestigious galleries including the National Portrait Gallery, the Hayward Gallery and the Royal Academy.
