Bronze Sculpture from Local MG Factory Races Away at Mallams' Sale

09/10/2019

A bronze sculpture, estimated at £1000-£1500, attracted a great deal of interest at Mallams' Abingdon House and Garden Sale on 7 October, finally selling to a UK trade buyer for a hammer price of £3000.

The bronze depicts Captain Eyston and his record-breaking speed in the MG Midget and has a plaque on the front showing the MG emblem (dated February 1932) and engraved with 'This little bronze is to commemorate the attainment of a speed of 118.38 mph. by Capt. G.E.T. Eyston on the world’s fastest baby car the M.G. Midget on Pendine Sands'.

This bronze was brought to Mallams by a private seller whose father had worked in an Oxfordshire MG factory and was given this bronze sculpture to commemorate this amazing, record-breaking occasion.
