Arts & Crafts paintings from a Cotswold home

Our ‘Pictures through the Ages’ online auction feature Arts & Crafts paintings & prints from the collection of John Redman (b.1937).

John Redman lived with the families of prominent artists Charles March Gere (1869-1957) and Henry Payne (1868-1939) in their Cotswold home during the 2nd World War from 1940 to 1944. The home was a constant visiting location for a number of important artists and writers including Sir Stanley Spencer, Vanessa Bell, Virginia Woolf, Sir William Rothenstein, George Bernard Shaw, John Betjeman and many others.

He has collected a comprehensive range of the Payne and Gere families works through a lifetime's friendship with Edward R. Payne (1906-1991), the Payne's second son of three and also an artist. These are well represented by the selection shown in this auction.

The collection starts at lot 200 through to lot 227. The live online auction takes place on the 25 June, with the addition of Mallams Live; our new bidding platform which allows you to bid online with no additional surcharge. (Please note Buyers Premium still applies).
