Large underglaze blue and copper-red porcelain vase
Chinese, 18th Century
of archaistic hu form with three raised bands around the centre, and two raised butterfly handles. The heavily potted vase with underglaze blue intricate diaper ground, scattered copper-red butterflies, flower heads and with a ruyi border, on a raised foot, 49.1cm high x rim diameter 21.6cm x 36cm wide
Note: a similar large-handled bottle vase with a blue diaper ground and red florets sold at Sothebys Hong Kong, 24th-25th November 1981, lot 264
Provenance:- originally owned by the vendor's great grandfather who ran an antique shop in Liverpool, and thence by descent.
