Paul Feiler (British, 1918-2013)
Whip hoist, 1950
signed and dated (upper left)
oils on board
22cm x 27cm.
Provenance:
with The Redfern Gallery, London.
This work by Feiler produced in 1950 can be considered as one of the earlier works of his first mature phase. It clearly is based on his observational approach of the period but is also significant as an example of his development towards abstraction and so marks an important point in his career.
In the present lot Feilers interest in all things to do with quay sides and harbors is clear to see, with his depiction of a whip hoist (the hoist attached to the furthest tip of a crane). These became subjects he pursued through the early 1950s.
Estimated at £4,000 - £7,000
