A Victorian enamel and gem set memorial brooch, the shaped oval panel centred with an agate cabochon and half pearl cluster, to a black enamel ground with foliate scroll decoration and raised scrolled border, the reverse with inscription dated 1854, monogrammed, gold mounted, (half pearls untested for origin, one later replaced simulated pearl), length 4.8cm
One of the half pearls has been replaced with a simulated pearl which has losses to the finish. The remaining half pearls have surface wear, scuffs and fractures, some having discoloured to greyish hues. The enamel has scuffs, chips and losses. General surface wear, scuffs and chips throughout mount, with patchy tarnishing. The back of the mount has been filed and has two dents. The inscription is crisp and the brooch pin is functioning. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 23.2gm.
