A 19th century gem set panel brooch, modelled as two entwined serpents, each accented with a pear-shaped pink topaz in foiled closed-back setting and cabochon green stone eyes, enclosing a similarly set pink topaz foliate panel and suspending a pink topaz drop below, (later brooch fitting, later bead drops), accompanied by a pair of pear-shaped pink topaz ear studs of conforming design (later adapted), brooch width 5.15cm, ear studs length 1.85cm (2)

The brooch is hollow, with scattered dents, dings and creases to both the panel and pear-shaped drop. The bead drops are later added, with areas of solder at the junctions to the mount, and the brooch fittings are later replaced but functioning. The safety catch is stamped '14K'. The ear studs are likely to have originally been drops to the brooch but have been removed and adapted with later stud fittings and also have evidence of prior fittings. The topaz stones have variable pale to mid-pink hues, possibly due to discolouration of the foil backing, and have surface wear, scuffs and nicks/chips. The largest topaz measures approximately 15.5mm length x 8mm width. Metal standard is untested. Gross weights approximately: brooch 18gm, ear studs 3.6gm.
