A late Victorian garnet and half pearl bangle, of hinged oval form, the foliate scroll engraved frontispiece centred with a circular cabochon garnet in foiled closed-back setting, bordered by half pearls, gold mounted, cased, (half pearls untested for origin), inner diameter 5.55cm
The garnet cabochon has a vibrant, deep pinkish-red hue, enhanced by the foil backing, with surface wear and nicks, containing small dark mineral inclusions. Diameter of cabochon approx. 14.1mm. The half pearls are slightly discoloured, with variable greyish hues, all with surface wear and occasional chips/fractures. The mount has some fine splits to the back of one shoulder and shallow dents/dings near to the clasp and to the back section. It has a subtle bloomed finish with general surface wear, pitting, nicks, scuffs and small chips, commensurate for use. The mount is not marked, has patchy dark tarnishing and the clasp is currently functioning. Metal standard is untested. Width tapers from 2.5cm at frontispiece to 0.95cm at back. Gross weight approx. 14gm.
