‡Julian Trevelyan (British, 1910-1988) Italian landscape, 1949 signed and dated (lower left) oils on canvas 62.5cm x 75.5cm. 1949 was an important year for Trevelyan, as he began teaching at the Chelsea School of Art and it marked the first point that he travelled on holiday with the artist Mary Fedden, his future wife. It was after a party at Fedden's Redcliffe Gardens Chelsea studio that Mary asked Julian to drive her to Taormina in Sicily and it is presumably on this trip that this significant landscape was conceived.
