A George III mahogany architect's desk, almost certainly by Gillows

The double-rising top over a secretaire drawer with a fitted interior and further drawers around a kneehole with a pull-out cupboard beneath, all on a conforming plinth base.

An almost identical design is shown in Lindsay Boynton's book 'Gillow Furniture Design 1760-1880', plate 24, 'A bureau writing-table'. A design of 1789.

Provenance:

An almost identical design is shown in Lindsay Boynton's book 'Gillow Furniture Design 1760-1880', plate 24, 'A bureau writing-table'. A design of 1789.

The leather inset top is almost certainly original. The interior of the secretaire drawer is in need of restoration, and previously with lids to the compartmentalised interior with letters for the alphabet for filing. Losses to the veneer and cockbeading overall. In need of repolishing.
