Pair of blue and white export ‘Pronk Dame au parasol’ dishes

Chinese, Qianlong

finely decorated with a Court lady beside a water's edge with reeds, gesturing towards three birds on the ground in front of her, standing before her maid holding an ornate parasol, all within a band of flower heads alternating with leafy scrolls, the rim decorated with vignettes enclosing further figures and birds on a trellis-pattern ground, the reverse with seven insects, 17.3cm diam.

Provenance: A private English collection via a deceased Estate.

Notes: The main decoration on the present dish is drawn from a watercolour painted by Cornelius Pronk in 1734, which was received by the Dutch East India Company in Batavia in 1735 to be forwarded to China and Japan for reproduction on porcelain wares. See CJA Jörg, Pronk Porcelain, Porcelain After Designs by Cornelis Pronk, Groningen, 1980, pp. 20-21.

In good overall condition, very minute firing imperfections.
