A late 19th century serpent bracelet, modelled as an expandable coiled snake, highlighted with cushion-shaped ruby eyes, signed BREVETÉ LION S.G.D.G and stamped DÉPOSÉ LION, with French Mercury's head gold export marks, total length approximately 75cm
There is a small break to the underside of the coiled section, near to the tail, where the some of the scales have been pushed downwards. The remainder of the coiled section is mostly good, with occasional flattened areas causing the scales to separate a little, and kinks/shallow dings. The rivet to the head is protruding to one side and there are areas of porosity to the head and tail, associated with solder joins, which appear to be part of manufacture. The coiled section is expandable, but would best fit a small to medium-sized wrist. The Mercury's head export marks are on the tail, with two further indistinct marks. Rubies are well matched, of mid to dark pinkish-red hues with surface wear, one stone containing an area of 'silk' inclusions, giving a cloudy/iridescent appearance. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 53.2gm.
