Removed from Haroldstone House, Cold Slad, Gloucestershire just outside Cheltenham, Mallams auctioned 300 lots from the property on Wednesday 20th January. Although the weather was inclement the saleroom was packed to the rafters and by the end of the day every lot was sold. |

| Jewels of the Orient |
One of the most eagerly awaited sales of the year was the inaugural Eastern & Oriental Sale at Mallams in Cheltenham. This new addition to the Mallams auction calendar recognised the growing demand and increased interest for works of art from the Middle East and Asia. The November auction offered over 500 lots, including fresh-to-the-market property from local estates and included ceramics, textiles, paper hangings, prints, furniture, ivory, jade, cloisonné enamel, lacquer, carpets, bronzes and other works of art. | |
| Romantic Redmore Sails back to Yorkshire |
A full to bursting sale room saw a number of resounding prices at Mallams auction on 28th May in Cheltenham. The top lot of the day was a scene of Whitby by the well-known Hull based artist Henry Redmore (1820-1887). Dated to the middle of the Victorian period, when Whitby had become a haven for holiday makers increasingly desperate to get away from the industrialised cities, fishermen are shown reeling in their hauls at the end of a long days work. |

| Modern & Contemporary Art and Design sale |
On Wednesday 27th May Mallams Oxford held their first ever sale of Modern and Contemporary Art and Design. This proved such a successful venture that another similar sale is planned for December. A diverse range of lots was sold, from a Frederick George Hughes ‘Taurus’ in perspex and nylon sculpture to Harry Bertoia chairs and a bureau constructed from the blades of a propeller to a lithograph of the Beatles. The star lot of the sale was a charming farmyard scene by Gerald Cooper (exh. 1928-40) which fetched £6,000 and an aerial view of a fishing boat with seagulls by Francis Wynne Thomas (1907-1989) which sold for £3,800. |
